Shannon Carlisle Johnson

Shannon grew up in Deer Park, and graduated from Deer Park High School. She has been a member of DPUMC since 1976. She has been with the Methodist Weekday School for 12 years, where she teaches preschool music. Shannon has been the Director of Children's Ministries since December 2008. She has started a children's choir for K-6th grade, the group's name is "Raise the Praise." She is excited about the growth of her ministry. She has a passion for children, and feels more at home sitting on the floor with the kids, than she does behind a desk. Shannon is the daughter of long time member, Betty Clare. She has 3 terrific sons, Wilson, Weston, and Wyndon. The boy's father was the late Billy Carlisle.

Director of Youth Ministries

A wife of 30 years to Glen McAdams, mother of 3 grown adults, and grandmother of 3 wonderful grandchildren. She and her family are long time residents of Deer Park and members of Deer Park United Methodist Church since October 1982. Her involvement with the youth ministry began as a volunteer Sunday School teacher in 1987 in the old church over on Ivy Street. Throughout her church life she has worked in the nursery, taught Body Recall, taught Disciple Bible Study and some adult Sunday School classes along with various other volunteer ventures. She has sat on many of the different church boards such as Nominations, Worship, Weekday School, Administrative Board, etc.

Susy came on board full time in 1998 as the youth minister which has become her heart's desire working with not only youth, but also their families in both the church and community. After a 5 year study at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, she received her Certification in Youth Ministry. She is always looking for new avenues of education to reach out and make the ministry of Christ Jesus stronger through the church.

Director of Methodist Weekday School

Kay is beginning her 29th year at DPUMC. Working initially on a part-time basis while her own children were young, she started the Mother's Day Out program for the church in 1981. As the program grew, Kay became a full-time director for the Methodist Weekday School, a combination of Pre-Kindergarten and Mother's Day Out programs.

As DPUMC grew and built new facilities, the Methodist Weekday School grew and established itself as a premier pre-school in the area. The school now serves 200 children, including a Pre-K program for children with disabilities in conjunction with Deer Park Independent School District at Carpenter Elementary.

Kay and her husband Shane have been married for 35 years and have two wonderful adult children - Chris, 30, Trisha, 29, and two grandchildren.

Barry Talley has been the Director of Music at DPUMC since 1982. The Sanctuary Choir is a volunteer group of singers, which meet weekly. The choir is made of a wide variety of talent-from readers to non-readers. There is no minimum or maximum level of ability required to join. Simply a desire to sing, have some fun and be a part of the weekly worship leadership at DPUMC. The choir prepares an annual Cantata each Christmas. They performed Handel's Messiah in 2000 along with several local churches and the DPHS Chorale.

Mr. Talley is the Executive Director of Fine Arts for the Deer Park Independent School District. He has been the Choral Director at Deer Park High School since 1981. The choral program at DPHS now numbers over 450 singers in grades 9-12. His choirs have performed at both national and state conventions on seven different occasions. In 2000, the DPHS Chorale was featured on national television at the famous Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. They appeared at the 2003 American Choral Directors Association National Convention in New York City, performing in Carnegie Hall and Riverside Church marking Deer Park High School's historic fourth appearance at a National ACDA convention. DPHS choirs have sung in such prestigious places as New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Church of St. John the Devine and Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and West Point Cathedral.

Mr. Talley is recognized as a choral composer and arranger with arrangements and compositions published by Alliance Music and the Hal Leonard Corporation. He was one of the Choral textbook authors for a choral methods textbook entitled, Experiencing Choral Music, which is currently being used in schools throughout the country.

Barry Talley served as the President of the Texas Music Educator's Association in 2000-2001.

Debbie Talley has been a member of DPUMC since October of 1982. She and husband Barry have been involved with the music program since day one. Debbie has directed handbells, children's choir, and served as substitute choir director and organist. From 1986 through 1990, Debbie was the director of Christian Education. Currently, Debbie is a voice teacher at Deer Park High School and the executive producer for Educational Enterprises Recording Company. She and Barry have two boys, Scott and Tyler.

Susan Graham has been involved in United Methodist Church music ministry almost her entire life. The daughter of a United Methodist minister, she sang her first church solo at the age of eight, joined the church choir in the 5th grade, began accompanying church services in the 7th grade, and substituted for the church choir director in the 8th grade.

The majority of Susan's life as a child was spent in Central Texas. She lived in Mansfield, Waxahachie, Comanche, Midlothian, Groesbeck, Winters, Rockdale, Port Arthur, Marshall, and graduated from high school in Edinburg in the lower Rio Grande Valley. She attended Southwestern University initially and married her first husband who was also a United Methodist preacher. Susan then attended college in Texarkana. The family moved to the Pasadena area in 1973, and Susan received her B.A. in mathematics from the University of Houston, Clear Lake in 1976.

Susan has been a paid church organist since 1985 working for United Methodist churches in the Pasadena/South Houston/Baytown areas. She has been employed as Deer Park United Methodist Church's organist since 2002. Susan is a full time special education teacher with Deer Park ISD. She, her husband David, and Alex, the youngest of her four children live in Deer Park. Her other children live in Pearland, Baytown, and Baton Rouge along with her 6 wonderful grandchildren.

Liz, husband David and family loved to La Porte from Hawaii in 1997 due to a military transfer. David has retired from the Coast Guard, and the family has made La Porte home. Since retirement David has been with the City of La Porte working with the Police Department as a dispatcher. Liz and David have three children, Danielle is married with has 3 children and lives in San Antonio, where Danielle has graduated from Incarnate Word College. Daughter Lauren graduated from La Porte High School in 2001, and is attending Texas Women's University. Today, she is starting her junior year and will graduate with a degree in Dance and a minor in English. Son Josh, has graduated from La Porte High School this year 2006, and is attending San Jacinto Junior College.

Married to Albert for 33 1/2 years with 3 grown children. Our son and his wife have blessed us with 2 "too cute" grandchildren and our twin daughters, who are members here. Our children were baptized, confirmed, and our son married in DPUMC. Moving to Deer Park 31 years ago and joining the church in April 1984, church has always been a top priority for her and her family. Serving on committees such as Education, Methodist Weekday School Board, Administrative Board, Worship, Vacation Bible School, Methodist Market, teaching Sunday school on different grade levels, youth/camp counselor, church coordinator for UM ARMY and BIG HOUSE, which she is also a member of the board. She also worked as a Mother's Day Out and Motor Skills teacher for the Methodist Weekday School for 9 years. She has been a member of UMW and M.O.M.S.

Penny has been the Wedding Coordinator since July 1990, when the church moved to the current location. She schedules and coordinates the wedding and receptions on site. It is her favorite thing to do because it is such a happy occasion.
