Announcement from April 25, 2021

Greetings friends,

It is my privilege to introduce you to your next pastor, Rev. John Black.  John served in the United States Air Force before attending Perkins School of Theology at SMU.  He has graciously led several congregations of the Texas Annual Conference, including our South District neighbors, Angelton First United Methodist.  He comes to us from Cold Springs UMC and A. Frank Smith UMC in Alto, Texas.

He has been married to Dr. Misty Paul Black for 31 years.  They have five grown children.  John's other proud accomplishments are too many to list, but they do inlcude captaining his high school bowling team.

Rev. Black's first Sunday will be July 4th.  In the coming weeks, we will do all we can to prepare for his arrival.  I encourage you to begin praying for him and his family.    Please be on the lookout for messages from Floyd Burden and the Staff Parish Relations Committee about how you can participate in making them feel welcomed to Deer Park and the DPUMC community.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Kate

Announcement from April 20, 2021

Greetings friends,

Sixty days after I arrived at Deer Park United Methodist, we survived Hurricane Harvey.  In the wake of that storm, we pulled together to serve our community.  Since then, we have weathered many kinds of storms: natural disasters, industrial accidents, personnel crises, discernment conversations, and a global pandemic. We worked to discern a vision for this church’s future and grew our hospitality ministries.  We have rejoiced over every baptism and new member.  We have come through moments of grief and trial.  Through it all we have served and grown together. This was my first solo appointment, and I will always be grateful for my time with DPUMC.

Effective July 1st, 2021 I have been appointed to lead Grace United Methodist Church in the Heights.  Our District Superintendent, Dr. Vincent Harris, met with SPRC to discuss a profile of DPUMC’s next pastor.  As soon as we are able, we look forward to introducing your new partner in ministry.

There are still celebrations and much ministry to be done over the remaining few months.  If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at church or set up an appointment and I’ll be happy to talk with you.  Patrick and I are sad to leave Deer Park, but we are looking toward this new challenge.  We covet your prayers for us and both churches through this transition.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Kate
