Pastor John came to Deer Park UMC in July of 2021. A seventh-generation native Texan, John has been serving churches in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for 28 years. He was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 2001and has served churches from small churches that averaged less than 10 in worship each Sunday, to churches that had hundreds joining together in multiple services each week.
Pastor John has been married to Dr. Misty Paul Black for over 30 years and they have been blessed to have five grown children. In his free time, Pastor John enjoys playing 42, reading, word games, and is considered by many to be an adequate conversationalist.
Director of Music Ministries
Barry has been the Director of Music at DPUMC since 1982. He is also the Executive Director of Fine Arts for Deer Park Independent School District and has been the Choral Director at Deer Park High School since 1981. Barry is recognized as a choral composer and arranger with arrangements and compositions published by Alliance Music and the Hal Leonard Corporation. Barry was one of the authors of a choral textbook entitled Experiencing Choral Music, which is currently being used in schools throughout the country. Barry is married to Debbie, and they have two sons – Scott and Tyler.
Director - Methodist Weekday School
Kay started the Mother’s Day Out program for the church in 1981. The program has since grown, and Kay has transitioned to be the full-time director of the Methodist Weekday School. She is married to Shane, and they have two adult children – Chris and Trisha. They also have four grandchildren.
Craig is an accountant and a graduate of the University of Houston. He has an extensive background in accounting, payroll, and human resources. He has also owned several small businesses, one of which was in the landscaping industry for more than 30 years. He is passionate about plants, trees, shrubs, and all things landscaping, especially design and growing his own vegetables aeroponically (without soil). He is not a resident of Deer Park, but absolutely loves the small-town feel he gets here!
